Caucus Assignments
Caucus assignments are posted directly on the Caucus Center. Once you see an item posted (by me) you need to post a response. However, to keep clear on what the assignments actually are and so you can plan ahead on how you will respond, here are the projected assigned topics:
October 3
Rhetorical Analysis: Consider the rhetorical strategies you have observed
in use over the last week or two. Was there an advertisement which
utilized a strategy in order to achieve some purpose or convey some message?
How about an editorial in the newspaper or a news story on TV?
October 10
Do the reading assigments for the unit help you to see the multiple
"voices" of any given issue? How are the readings helpful to
you? Are you able to "analyze" the rhetorical strategies
in use in the various arguments?
October 15
Can you think of an issue where the same message is presented to different
audiences and, therefore, presented differently? Describe a message which
you understand to be the same message packaged differently for different
audiences? Why do you think the message is sent differently? It
seems obvious to say that it is because the audience is different, but
why, if the message is the same isn't the delivery the same?
(possible examples: smoking, drinking and driving, getting an education...)
October 30
Why is rhetorical analysis an important skill?...According
to you...
