English 101
Caucus Assignments, unit 3
For unit 3, you are required to come up with your own persuasive piece and to write a rhetorical analysis of your own work.
This assignment poses some challenges for you along with some freedom. You need to consider the ways in which you might impact the issue you are working on. To do that, you need to brainstorm and reflect (as you have in your journals). However, it would also be useful for you to get feedback from other classmates in the same boat! Your caucus assignments this time are designed to help you both brainstorm, look at other example ideas, and get feedback from your colleagues. There are two parts to the assignment.
First, go to the Caucus center and to the Engl101brown group (where you have been doing all your posts). Instead of choosing an item and going in to read it, choose "create an item." Create an item and title it with your last name and a few descriptive words about your project idea. For example, I might make my item: Brown-Service learning proposal. Write as much as you can about what you think you will be doing for your persuasive piece. You might also request advice about what you are doing, or if you have hit a brick wall, ask for assistance. If you are going to write an "editorial" but you haven't thought of a publication yet, you might ask your classmates for suggestions.
The second part of the assignment is for you to pick two (2) of your classmates ideas to respond to directly on caucus. You may want to wait a day or two to respond. Choose an item that sounds interesting to you and that you have some good feeback to provide for. Do not write "good idea" and leave it at that. Help your classmates get their ideas toned up and ironed out. Also, don't choose items that everyone else has already responded to. I am hoping that everyone gets a response to their item, so choose one with no responses before one that has ten posts.
The sooner you all do this, the sooner you can get to work on the final drafts. This assignment is to help you (not for my personal entertainment).
