Caucus Conference

I have set up a "conference" at the Caucus Center on the UA website.  The function of this conference is to provide another place for you to respond to readings and issues at large.  You will be posting on Caucus based on the assignments each week (on the first unit of your syllabus, these assignments are designated "LS" because we were going to do this via listserv).

I encourage you to connect to the caucus center and join the conference and just try to see all the features you can work with.  The main advantage of the system is that your responses remain on the system. You are able to respond directly to the "assignment" item (which I will post for every assignment), or you can respond to the reactions other classmates have entered. You are also able to refer back to previous responses and you can review readings utilizing this conference feature.

I also encourage you to enter/create your own items of discussion.  You can post questions on which you would like to hear from the rest of the class (for example, you might posit the question "Do you think this feature of the course is helping anyone?"). Another advantage to caucus is that we are able to include web addresses in our responses, so we can offer resources for our colleagues to check out.

I expect you to check this conference and spend some time on it every week.  Budget time to access from home, from the dorm, or from a lab on campus. I will be able to monitor who has signed on and who has read the various responses.  As long as you are utilizing the conference fairly regularly, you will get full credit for participation (remember part of your grade is tied to journals, class exercises, etc...including caucus!).

E-mail me if you are having any difficulties with Caucus, or if you would like to make some suggestions for us to use the feature more effectively.
